Second Chance!
Recently, I saw people at a wedding that had been in our singles ministry. Their lives had gone on in different directions … they had moved on. Many had been given a second chance and took it to live that life only God offers . . . redemption from a loving God that takes people where they are and makes all things new. What a sight to see! This wedding, which I recently wrote about, was deemed the “Second Chapter” wedding. Chapter one was over, and now God was writing chapter two in their lives. This caused me to think about second chances, the second chapter that can renew and change a life.
Years ago, there was a group called Second Chapter of Acts. (Known for Easter Song.) After Googling their name to catch up on their journey, the words opened their lives and gave you a glimpse into their hearts.
Misunderstood at times, their story revealed that all they wanted to do was to sing about Jesus and share His love. From the second chapter of ACTS: “AND IT SHALL BE THAT EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.” (Acts 2:21 NASB)This verse was what they were about. They went on to say, about the name they claimed as their own (Second Chapter of Acts) … “but it occurred to us, that if you were cast adrift and you had only Acts 2, you’d have it all. The prophecy of Jesus’ coming, the fulfillment of the prophecy, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the birth of the Church, the activity of the early Church as it began to function … it’s all there in one chapter. It’s the Reader’s Digest version of the Bible.”
They are no longer singing as a group, but you will hear their “Easter Song” along with Ragan Courtney/Buryl Red’s “In Remembrance of Me” sung at every Easter service, in every church, celebrating the Christ who has risen and HIS Second Coming!
After this wedding, I kept hearing bells. Celebration bells. I don’t think we have to wait for Easter to sing this song about bells ringing, for we should be singing and celebrating HIS Second Coming every day.
