Upon leaving a movie the other night, I was stopped by a woman with purple hair. I was taken aback at first; but the question she asked me removed all barriers her looks had created. “Could I pray for your leg?” she asked, after watching me stumble as I walked with my cane. “Of course.” I replied. I’m not one, as of late, to refuse prayers on my behalf. (Have you noticed?)
This strange woman with purple hair was bold enough to ask a stranger if they needed prayer. Had I forgotten what I was taught while on staff at North Phoenix Baptist? Had I forgotten how common it was for 50 people after a service to commit their lives to Christ? Members and staff were bold enough to ask friends and strangers alike if they had met The Man who could change their lives. We were always amazed what the Lord did with our feeble efforts to ask people who were “stumbling through life” to attend a service.
Personally, I don’t think it takes purple hair, but it does take the boldness and effort to stop and look at those people we pass each day. If they are stumbling, they might need an extra hand, a prayer, or most of all an introduction to the Savior who helps us through all kinds of suffering.
