One never knows how you touch another’s life. Of course, God’s plan calls us to be salt and light whenever and wherever we go, but because life is so fast, at times we never consider that the moments can change our lives. How lives intersect have not surprised me until now. Now that my pace is slower, physically and socially, I can reflect on times gone by and the people I have met on the way. The world calls those “magical” moments. Others of us call those moments divine, appointed, or spiritually timed. I called them blessed. I have been blessed by many relationships that literally take my breath away.
Bonita and I were driving to MD Anderson Cancer Hospital recently to have my quarterly MRI. This is always a nervous time for any cancer patient. Only those who have walked through cancer themselves or with family or friends can understand what that drive is like. It has become for us a time of “Holy Roar.” A time that HIS presence is oh, so close. Normally, the car ride for me (because of my anxiety) needs to be quiet, still, and as stress free as possible … quite hard to do in the traffic of Houston, Texas.
On this day, after praying aloud most of the way, Bonita turned on the CD player. Voices from my past filled the car with their Holy gifts of song to our most Holy God. Our precious longtime friend, Terry Jones (formerly with Point of Grace) has a new solo recording called I Will Speak. All of a sudden we were listening to one of the songs Healing is in Your Hands. It wasn’t long until we heard familiar voices joining in. We recognized Heather Floyd Payne and Christy Nockels singing and harmonizing along with Terry. We have been touched by these dear friend’s lives and we know they believe what they are singing. I know their voices inside and out . . . their lives, too.
Tears streaming down our faces, they reminded us … Yes! Healing is in HIS hands. We have seen this. We believe this, without a doubt, and we claim this every day that He has continued my life here on earth.
