When I was a very young boy my family went on a vacation to Colorado. One of the things that sticks out in my memory is that, while driving together, we turned a corner and suddenly saw the majestic mountain ranges.
It was so magnificent that I recall hearing my dad cry in the driver’s seat. (We come from a family of criers. I have been known to cry watching a McDonald’s commercial.) I leaned over and asked “Dad, why are you crying?” His reply was because he was so moved and overwhelmed with the beauty of the scenery. “Only God could make something this grand and beautiful,” he said. We were all moved, and at that point I remember my mother, in the passenger seat, began singing How Great Thou Art. (I loved hearing my mother sing. It would not be the first or last time she would break out in song.)
I never fail to visit the Rocky Mountains that I do not remember that moment. I am overwhelmed by how much the Lord loves us and could provide such amazing sights … sights that can only confirm that the most Holy God loves beauty too.
The Trees of the Fields
You shall go out with joy
And be led forth with peace,
The mountains and the hills
Will break forth before you.
There’ll be shouts of joy
And all the trees of the field
Will clap, will clap their hands.
And all the trees of the field will clap their hands
The trees of the field will clap their hands
The trees of the field will clap their hands
While you go out with joy.
The beautiful pictures featured here were taken by a dear friend, Kim Clinard. She surprised us with a visit while we were here in Colorado.
