If you have seen me walk lately, your first thought would probably be that my balance is off. Well, after six back surgeries, one hip surgery, and two craniotomies … that is definitely the case. My balance is off. The cane I walk with does help in most situations, and at home I maneuver pretty well around the house without its use. But, the doctor cautions me about falling and has suggested that the cane is a good idea. I always do what the doctor says 🙂
Balance. That is the word for today. My pastor, Dr Ed Young, has been speaking on Life Coaching: The Game Plan that Works. Last night he spoke and gave reference to Ten Goals to be in Balance: Here they are:
- Have a plan
- Be part of a team
- Go with your passion
- Operate out of your genius (that at which you excel)
- You can’t always be nice
- Choose your battles
- Know the difference between ownership and stewardship
- Know the importance of little things
- Don’t look back
- Carry around JOY!
His sermon that amplified these points was fantastic. He was right on!

I personally know these goals work. Looking back, I know them to be true; but right now, I don’t have a plan. I don’t have a passion. I’m not sure of my genius. I’m not always nice, and I don’t have a choice with all my battles. I do find myself looking back and wishing for the former life I had; but that takes me to a dark place. I want to avoid that lonely, dark place.
On the positive side, I am learning to appreciate the little things in life. I am daily seeking a passion spurred by my genius. I am reading, praying, and seeking what God’s plan is for me these days on this long journey of ups and downs. I go to PT that works on my physical balance, and that carries over to my mental balance. Balance, therefore, causes me to seek JOY … HIS JOY … and in seeking HIS JOY, the balance I find is in HIM.
HE‘S GOT THIS!
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7 ASV)
