As I look upon the New Year and we enter a new time of starting over with various aspects of our lives (health, diets, family, friends, ministry, etc.), I have to take inventory and prioritize my goals for the coming new year. Of course, dealing with my health situation is one of the top entries on the list; but as I reflect on the past few years I have to ask myself, “What were the most important goals in my life?”
My life has drastically changed, so the path feels a little more rugged and uncertain than before. My new goals will have a different slant, an uneven perspective. Those things that I took for granted are no longer a “given” but something “hoped” to attain.
So, where do we find these new goals? How do we make a change from our former lives? Where do I personally go from here? These questions hover over my head each day.
One of my favorite stories from the Bible, and one that I have often shared, is the one of the men who carried their friend to Jesus to be healed. These men, these four friends, carried this paralytic man to see Jesus with such faith. If they could just get him to The Master, they knew he would be healed. They not only brought their friend to the house where Jesus was speaking, but because of the crowd, they tore up the roof of the house to set him right at Jesus’ feet!
With much to overcome, these friends let nothing stand in their way, taking many risks to bring their new friend to Christ. I certainly have nothing to lose. What am I going to do to bring others to Christ? What will I risk to introduce to others the One who will change their life?
Happy New Year to my Christian family of risk takers. Thank you for carrying me, by your prayers and supplications, to the One who could heal my broken body. Now, what will we do this year to bring others to the feet of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? Here, they will find grace and mercy to help in time of need.
“Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16 NASB)
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7 NASB)
