Many, many people in the last couple of months have referenced this information that was posted much earlier. So, here is a reprint of that for you. I pray it helps and blesses you. Feel free to share with others dealing with the shock of a crisis season in their lives.
Soon after I was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer Bonita took some time to reflect on ways to adjust to our situation. Gleaned from Beth’s Bible studies, reading, and other books of inspiration, and her own experiences, she compiled a listing of steps that could help anyone facing a crisis. Bonita is a treasure. She has been such a blessing for me during this journey. Her sacrifice, energy, work, and prayer support has made all the difference. Thank you dearest. I adore you.
Lord, I pray these items will be a blessing to others going through a health crisis.
Ten vital things people need to know about when preparing for a health crisis and eventual suffering …
Find out all you can about your illness. Be informed about your options, medications, and surgeries. Use the resources available to you. Look for reputable information on the Internet … reputable is very important. Needless worry causes stress.
Stress is not your friend. Pass the stress about important things on to loved ones or a confident friend. Leave the small things …small. Exercise and get good rest. A massage can do wonders. Exercise with a pal if possible.
Punch fear in the face! There will be times that are extremely scary. The unknown is frightening in itself , but that is where Satan loves to dwell. He loves for fear to take hold and almost drive you insane. That is when you stop, take a deep breath, pray with all your might, and turn it over to the Lord. Calling a Christian friend who can pray with you can sometimes turn darkness into light in a moments time. Things will change or look different to you, and all fear is gone. Wow, now that’s punching fear in the face!
Days can be terrible sometimes. You need a confident ear or an accountability partner. Choose someone who wants to listen but doesn’t share personal information with others. Use them often as a sounding board.
Keep up with your friends. They are a treasure.
Say the things that need to be said. Don’t let the day go by without your partner hearing from your lips the words “I love you” … and say it often.
Find JOY every day. Don’t ponder on past mistakes or worry about the future. What’s done is done. There is JOY to be found every day. Seek JOY!
“Do not call to mind the former things, Or ponder things of the past. “Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:18, 19 NASB)
Foundation on the word. It will keep you focused to what is really important in life. “To live is Christ, to die is gain.” Don’t forget the first part of that verse … to LIVE. Christ is here living in you, through you, around you each and every day. Take it day by day.
Enjoy your family often. Make each visit about doing fun, memorable things. Make some memories that will bring a smile to their faces. Focus on saying To them the words they need to hear you say.
Know that GOD is in control! Give Him the day each day you put your feet on the floor, or each day that you open your eyes. He’s got you covered! “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 NASB)
