We have met many Christians in the medical field who have been such an encouragement when we have been scared and ill- informed. They have lifted our spirits, and we left with a smile facing what was ahead … no matter what the outcome. They deserve our praise for sure! Their dedication is so important to the cause for a cure.
Lord God, we come to You today full of praise and worship for who You are to us. Creator/Father, Counselor, Redeemer, Friend and constant Companion, Your breath is life. You are the essence of life, the essence of love and justice. You are light. You are truth. You are omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient God over all.
You are so worthy of our focus and trust. In good times and bad, we desire to walk with You, Jesus.
Today I focus my prayer on those who we encounter in the medical community. Thank You for the gifted minds in this area of public service. Thank You for the strides in research that are constantly allowing new treatments for a variety of diseases. Thank You for calling people into the field of medicine and health care. You are the giver of compassion that they model. You equip men and women with understanding beyond their natural abilities. You are the source of all healing, whether through medicine or by a miraculous touch. May integrity and compassion for the human condition drive our medical community.
Lord, I lift first the doctors to You and ask Your blessing upon them. Father, thank You for these intelligent men and women who want to save lives. Many become relationally and emotionally involved with their patients. They take seriously that they’re responsible to choose good treatment options. They pour out their energy into helping others that are in their care. And ultimately they feel they’ve let a patient down when they have no further treatment to offer. They grieve when a patient dies, especially when they’ve become friends during their time together. This community of hard-working people are often chided for their high financial earnings, yet few people realize the sacrificed home lives, high rate of functioning alcoholism and failed marriages due to working long hours above and beyond the eight hour day. It can be all-consuming. I pray balance in their lives. I pray You would minister to them when they feel over-involved or isolated from families who can’t understand the burdens they shoulder. God please bless them.
I also lift the nurses to You, Lord – women and men who have the most contact with their patients. I pray protection in Jesus’ Name from contagious diseases and ask Your mercy over them. Thank You, God, for the way a great nurse can cheer their patient. Thank You for their heart’s desire to make their patient comfortable and provide an atmosphere of rest for them to recover. Thank You for their knowledge and insight as they report and help diagnose. Bless them, God, to avoid burn out and please prosper them financially as they work so hard . . . often above and beyond their shift as well. These individuals also grieve and hurt when they lose a patient they’ve grown to care for. I pray protection over these hearts who have a true gift of mercy. Bless their families as well and protect them please, Lord.
I also lift the radiation and lab technicians, mechanics and dietitians, too. There are so many in the industry that are connected to the sick. I pray blessings on them as well for their service. Protect them from illness as well and please prosper them in their work.
In all areas I pray for an attitude of mutual respect within the medical community. Let there be a cooperative spirit, not a competitive one. Thank You, Lord, because sharing helpful information is so much better than hoarding it. Bless them with beneficial and open communication.
Father, I pray that ________________ would be a good patient with a willing attitude and an uncomplaining spirit. Help him/her to see these professionals as people who have their own problems and hurts. They need You, Jesus, as much as anyone! I pray for opportunities to open up through their relationships for sharing Christ in gentle ways. I pray ministry would happen often through _________________ because Your Holy Spirit is at work and You’ve connected him/her to these for this season. Those with scientific minds often struggle with things of faith. They like methods to be proven. I pray that the testimonies of faith-filled people would soften their hearts to the things of God. Jesus, be so personal. Speak to them in the language they understand. I pray miracles would open their minds to the truth of who You are, the Great Physician, Lord of all science, all chemistry and biology. Creator of all that is!
And yet there are many committed Christian doctors and nurses out there too, so please work through them as well to bring glory to Your Name and point people to Jesus as the One true Hope. Work Your miracles through these blessed men and women so they can openly say it was You, not a certain treatment that someone can thank.
Thank You, Father, for those who travel to foreign lands and serve as medical missionaries, placing themselves and sometimes their families in uncomfortable surroundings at best, often in dangerous conditions, medically speaking. Please equip them and protect them in every way. Rebuke evil in Jesus’ Name. Sustain hope and courage in overwhelming situations such as these Ebola-infected areas where many currently serve. Give them words of eternal life for those who are dying and may many come to know You because of their witness. Holy Spirit continue to draw men and women, boys and girls to the Savior through our medical missionaries.
All this we ask in the Name above all names – Jesus, our Great Shepherd and our Great Physician, and Lover of our souls. Thank You for Jesus!
Amen

Wow – here’s a powerful prayer straight from the heart of my cancer-fighting-miracle-mind-blowing-powerful-pastor-crazy-coworker and dear friend, the AMAZING Steve Seelig! Great words of faith and a heartfelt petition that I’m claiming for my own amazing medical teams and fellow melahomies! Read. Recite. Repeat.
A beautiful prayer. It was timely as the Lord spoke to me through your prayer. May God bless you.
