Father God, You are Light. You are Love. You are Spirit and Truth. Thank You, Lord, for Your grace on our lives through Jesus, Messiah. There is nothing greater in all the universe! We are so grateful to be Your beloved sons and daughters because of Him.
Lord, I lift to You today one who is suffering with feelings of guilt related to his/her physical illness. Logic can tell us we’re not responsible but some nagging thoughts whisper that somehow we are. I pray Your tender love touches ______________ and assures him/her that this is simply a lie from the enemy. It is FALSE GUILT. We are not punished for sin by a mean god who zaps us. Christ has already paid for _____________’s sins and all is forgiven and atoned for by His death. “Though our sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow.” (Isaiah 1:18b) Praise be to our great God; we are forgiven and free of condemnation. (Romans 8:1)
Such is simply common to the human condition. These bodies wear out. Immune systems weaken and the damaged/cancer cells go unchecked. Genetics, environmental and chemical effects on these frail bodies cause disorders and disease. It’s truly miraculous, Lord, that they work as well as they do! God, You are the master architect, the engineer of all engineers and the wisest of all. You are able to totally restore health. You even raised Lazarus from the dead! I pray you would bring healing to ___________’s body again. You can do anything! Please show Your miracles in our day, O God.
I pray You’d rebuke all feelings of guilt and shame from ____________ in the mighty Name of Jesus. I also pray against his/her feeling that the body betrayed him/her after taking good care of it. The body cannot punish us. We are simply chemical, electrical beings…but we house the Spirit of the Living God! You know we are just dust. (Psalm 103:14) So, please Father, restore all dignity and peace. I pray joy to him/her in spite of the physical changes. Thank You that though outwardly we may be wasting away (or at least very ill), inwardly You renew us day by day. These troubles and this suffering are somehow achieving FOR US eternal glory that outweighs them all (paraphrased 2 Cor 5:16,17). The spirit remains healthy and grows brighter day by day as we seek You. Lord, does that also mean the deeper the suffering, the greater the glory? How amazing. We stand in awe of You.
Lord, I also pray specifically against “survivor’s guilt” which is so confusing and causes torment to the soul. We question “Why not me? Why him?” and feel guilty for the blessings of an extended life. This is surely not of You, God. Rebuke the enemy from his harassing accusations and please cover ______________ with Your peace like a blanket. Assure him/her that You know exactly how many heartbeats, how many breaths each of us will take. We cannot live on this earth a minute longer than You determine and there is no figuring it out. With our God, we can simply scale the wall of this unknown and move forward in faith. (Psalm 18:29)
Thank you that when believers who go before us close their eyes to this world, they open them to the ultimate healing. No more pain, no more sorrow… I doubt they’d want to come back after glimpsing Your glory and majesty! Father, we long for the day when we’ll all be together again. And Christ will answer every question. He will reveal the whole picture and we will understand. Until then, thank You, God, for Your Spirit who lives in us and comforts us. Hope lives in us because Jesus is alive. Hallelujah!
As long as we have breath, we will be sure to give You praise, honor and glory due Your holy Name. As the Psalmist said “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.” (Psalm 150:6) We seek to honor You and follow You. You are the good Shepherd and we know Your Voice. Thank You for laying down Your life for us! (John 10) Your love is better than life…we bless Your beautiful Name.
Because of, and in the Name of, Jesus. Amen.
