Today is Labor Day. A day of rest, recreation, and relaxation. I have always liked two of those “R” words, but there is one I never made a part of my days. I have never liked to take naps or rest. The word rest meant my mind needed to stop.
That’s another word I never liked to add to my day until it was time to sleep. Stop. Bonita says she has never known me to say I was tired until this time of “rest.”
This season of illness has become my “season of rest.” I have always wanted to squeeze as much as I could into every day, and then some. Happily, I still plan more activities than I ever can complete; but sadly, I want to complete every one.
“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him.” (Psalms 37:7a NAS)
Patiently. That’s a hard word for me too. I do rest during this time, but I cannot say that I do it patiently. Therefore, I have learned more about myself than I wanted to, but more about Christ which is exactly what I needed … and that is more than enough! Resting. HIS rest.
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 KJV)
