But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. Therefore comfort one another with these words. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14, 18 NASB)
I was reminded this last week, with the passing of one whose life was cut far too short and another who lived life to almost ninety, that our hope is truly in Jesus Christ. Unfaltering, unwavering, unshakeable hope to those who live with the knowledge that living is being with Christ, but to die is gain … life everlasting. Both of these beloved men lived daily with this assurance, so we need to rejoice and comfort one another in this the promise given to us in the Word of God. They are whole, and one day we will most certainly be with them again.
Near to the Heart of God
There is a place of quiet rest,
Near to the heart of God;
A place where sin cannot molest,
Near to the heart of God.
- Refrain:
O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God;
Hold us, who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.
There is a place of comfort sweet,
Near to the heart of God;
A place where we our Savior meet,
Near to the heart of God.
- Refrain:
O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God;
Hold us, who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.
There is a place of full release,
Near to the heart of God;
A place where all is joy and peace,
Near to the heart of God.
- Refrain:
O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God;
Hold us, who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.
