I am trying to be content with smaller things. I was reminded today as I read a mom’s post on Caring Bridge that sometimes smaller is better. My friend Lanay has seen with her own eyes, ears, and heart the life of her son being gradually given back life step by step. Each small step places his health closer to what doctors say is normal. At his own pace right now is better than his mom’s eager giant leap that her heart and soul wants to see. Lanay is living “smaller is better” during this recovery time with her son Jake.
I know that you are thinking “I never thought I would hear Steve Seelig say those words … smaller is better.” It’s especially strange since this is written on a blog entitled, God is Big and HE Does Big Things.
God does do big things AND He works through the small as well. Consider this:
- How Jesus took a small fish sandwich (happy meal) from a small boy and catered a big group.
- A small smooth stone in David’s slingshot killed the 9-foot Big WWF Champ Giant Goliath.
- Jesus was also heard saying, “suffer the small children to come unto me.”
- The lady that reached out with a small, quick touch of the hem of HIS garment.
Jesus dealt with small also … the smallest verse. Jesus wept.
Nothing is too small for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to deal with. No concern of ours is too small to ask for strength to make it through the day. No step is too small to take toward the direction of changing our wayward direction in life. Sometimes small becomes even bigger than big.
Small verses:
Love is patient, Love is kind. 1 Corinthians 13:4
The truth shall set you free. John 8:32
For God so loved the world … John 3:16
For I know the plans I have for you … Jeremiah 29:11
Now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love. I Corinthians 13:14
I guess what I’m saying, mostly to myself right now is:
“Don’t sweat the small stuff.”
“It’s a small world after all.”
“Small is as small does” (is that from Forrest Gump).
I’m praying today that you will not become consumed with the small, and the too big things.
Yes, wisdom here! It’s easy to see the hand of God in the big stuff, but the cancer journey has taught me to see him in the little things too… A smile from my son, a helping hand from a stranger, a flower in bloom or the glimpse of beautiful bird – God is in the details – big and small!
