Adoration
Confession
Thanksgiving
Supplication
I’ve always used the prayer guide using an acrostic of the word ACTS. This has provided me a pattern for prayer that has seemed to work for such a very long time. I’ve gotta be honest that my prayers changed drastically since I received the horrible news about terminal brain cancer. Most of those prayers seem to be a 16-month run-on sentence pouring my heart out to God. It seems we never stop talking. Good stuff!
It’s helpful to fall back on the old formula. You might even want to give it a try:
Adoration. Here are the things I adore about His nature/character. Name them. God, I adore you today for Your patience, Your grace, Your compassion. I adore You for Your power and might. You are my Strong Tower.
Confession. I’m gonna be gut-honest to you today God. Here are my feelings, my inadequancies, weaknesses, and confessions.
Thanksgiving. Though it’s not easy to take my eyes off of my circumstances, I want you to know how grateful I am for these blessings and good things in my life.
Supplication. Here are some of my needs Father God. Note: my needs don’t seem as significant after a time of Adoration, Confession, and Thanksgiving. In the light of all that You are and have done, my requests seem pale in Your Light. |
Give it a try today. Pray to God today with ACTS of prayer (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication).
