It’s funny how life sometimes works out! You just never know when something you liked but really didn’t “grab you” at the time will years later come back around and mean the world to you. So it is with this song “You Are Here.”
In the mid 90s, while serving on staff at Houston’s First Baptist Church, the Sunday Nights Alive Praise Team & Band recorded an album of popular worship songs. Among them “You Are Here.” It was one of our favorites but, over time, had faded in my memory. I came across it not too long ago and listened to it again. The words grabbed my heart; as I listened to the recording of me singing them back then, I realized how pertinent to my life they are right now:
You are here among us, for we have gathered in Your name
We can feel your presence in this place
You are here among us, You are enthroned upon our praise
You are here, here to heal and here to save.
You are here in our midst
How we’ve waited for moments like this

Holy Spirit come do as you wish

I pray that as you listen to this song, the cry of your heart will be, “Holy Spirit, come do as you wish … we are changed as You move in our midst.”

I have ALWAYS loved your voice, Steve. I remember when you would sing this song on Sunday nights … it would always make me cry. That’s what I did when I heard this song again after so many years! I cried. Your voice is so soothing and so anointed. No wonder the devil has tried to snuff out your life so many times! He recognizes the anointing when he sees it. Praise GOD that greater is He that is IN you than he that is in the world. God’s not through with you yet … you have a VOICE that needs to be heard. You go, my dear friend! Let that amazing voice of yours be heard all around the world. God IS big, and He DOES DO BIG THINGS! Hallelujah! I love and honor you.
