Looking back on the last weekend, I am renewed and touched by the experience of gathering with those who were members of the Travis Avenue Baptist Church Youth Choir and Selah Singers in Fort Worth, Texas where I grew up. After all these years, there were 200 strong that gave of themselves to honor and give glory to God for an experience of singing with a group, for some of us, almost 50 years ago. This reunion brought back memories of great songs that we had sung in church, on mission trips, and concerts around the world. All these years (50+), Bill Pearson has faithfully served the music ministry of that great church. Congratulations Bill!
As we sang, our hearts were touched by the words that have stayed in our memory all these years. Songs of faith, friendship, and familiarity. Songs that renewed our hearts and minds. Songs that reminded us of what an important part church played in our lives, our children’s lives, and now our grandchildren’s lives … .because church is where we learned to worship Christ the Lord. Church taught us how to follow Christ, and church became a place that would point us in the right direction to find help when we are/were in need.
Right now for me, some days are good and some days are bad. Sometimes I have to take advantage, and act quickly, on those day when my body will allow me to participate in activiites that formerly came so easy for me. At the last minute, Bonita and I decided to attend the reunion. They were so gracious to let me speak and emcee the event, and that was the best medicine I have had in a long time. Thank you to those who participated last weekend. It blessed my heart!
At the close of our rehearsals together through the years we sang a wonderful chorus that summed up the union and purpose we felt together:
SING! MAKE A JOYFUL SOUND.
Sing make a joyful sound, sing life in Christ is found.
Wages of sin and death, He paid it all.
Sing make a joyful sound, sing life in Christ is found.
Now in my heart He reigns, sing! sing! SING!
Where can I get a copy of the sheet music for Sing, Make a Joyful Sound? I have been looking for it for decades. Thanks for any help you can give
