We had lunch this past week with precious Beverly Terrell. She is one of my heroes in the faith. At 80 she is full of energy, passion for God, and a schedule that would shame any of us. Beverly is one of greatest gospel singers of all time. She has sung all around the world to audiences of thousands and thousands.
While visiting in the restaurant we were discussing the wonderful response to the Facebook Family Worshippers that many of you have enjoyed. In the middle of the meal and the noisy restaurant she brought up a song from the distant past and then commenced to sing it out loud right there at the table. It was awesome. She unashamedly sang me this old (but new to me) song made famous by George Beverly Shea in the middle of a very crowded restaurant.
It was perfect and I was blessed by these lyrics. I know they came to me at just the right time.
Read along (and sing along if you know it).
IF WE COULD SEE BEYOND TODAY
If we could see beyond today as God can see;
If all our tears would pass away … the shadow flee;
O’er earthly cares we would not fret,
Each sorrow we would soon forget;
For many joys are waiting yet for you, for me.
“If we could see!”… “If we would know” … we often say;
But God, in love, a veil doth throw across our way.
We cannot see what lies before,
And so, we cling to Him the more!
He leads us ’til this life is o’er;
TRUST and OBEY.
