It’s funny how certain tunes or phrases in a song can get lodged in our brain and we sing it over and over again for quite a long time. Unfortunately not ALL the songs that stick in me are the best ever kind of songs and for sure I don’t always sing “in my brain” or in the shower with an American Idol finalist quality. Bummer.
I woke up again this morning with these words echoing inside me, “Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.” Now, that’s powerful stuff. What a wonderful promise we have in Jesus.
I asked Bonita this morning what song that phrase came from. This godly music teacher wife quickly replied, “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” Duh! I knew that. In fact, I think I have posted that song in months past. My heart knew I needed that word today … that Jesus provides for me “strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.” Thanks, Lord … I needed that!
So, sing with me today this wonderful, powerful song and sing a little louder when it gets to “strength for today ….”
GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
Refrain
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Refrain
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Refrain
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
AND then I sing this other phrase that stops me in my tracks,
“All I have needed Thy hand hath provided”
He is all-sufficient, you know.
