This morning I heard and watched (live streaming) Kim Harrison sing the wonderful Amy Grant Christmas song, “Breath of Heaven.” It was so very powerful. I love Kim to death and I love that song … winning combination. Several phrases in that song caught my attention and pierced my heart this morning. Again, it’s one of those songs we have sung for all our lives and never considered the powerful lyrics that speak to us at our greatest time of needs. At least that’s what they did for me today.
As I read these words expressing Mary’s feelings of fright, discomfort, and weariness written in this song, I am reminded that I am not the only one who has suffered at this time of year … and many of you have as well.
The chorus is such strength for me right now . . . Hold me together, be forever near me, Breath of Heaven. Lighten my darkness, pour over me Your holiness, for you are holy.
BREATH OF HEAVEN
I have traveled many moonless nights,
Cold and weary with a babe inside,
And I wonder what I’ve done.
Holy father you have come,
And chosen me now to carry your son.
I am waiting in a silent prayer.
I am frightened by the load I bear.
In a world as cold as stone,
Must I walk this path alone?
Be with me now.
Be with me now.
Breath of Heaven,
Hold me together,
Be forever near me,
Breath of Heaven.
Breath of Heaven,
Lighten my darkness,
Pour over me your holiness,
For You are holy.
Breath of Heaven.
Do You wonder as you watch my face,
If a wiser one should have had my place?
But I offer all I am
For the mercy of Your plan.
Help me be strong.
Help me be.
Help me.
Breath of Heaven,
Hold me together,
Be forever near me,
Breath of Heaven.
Breath of Heaven,
Lighten my darkness,
Pour over me Your holiness,
For You are holy.
Breath of Heaven,
Hold me together,
Be forever near me,
Breath of Heaven.
Breath of Heaven,
Lighten my darkness,
Pour over me Your holiness,
For You are holy.
Breath of Heaven.
Breath of Heaven.
Breath of Heaven.
P.S. Thanks Kim for making this song move with the Spirit. Love you and all of us are so grateful for your gift.
P.P.S. And thanks dear friend, Debbie Park (aerialist) who also gave this song an artistic interpretation of “Breath of Heaven.” You rock!!!
