Every year, for 20 plus years, we have been invited to vacation in San Diego. Otherwise known as heaven on earth! Paradise! Perfect weather, perfect beach, perfect entertainment area, perfect friends!
We usually stay on a yacht. (I have to say that because it is really la-ti-da, and we hob-nob with the wealthy for a week or two!) I have always been fascinated with the boats that park in the slips of the various marinas in the area.
The names of the boats fascinate me. The boats are usually named a female name, or a clever play on words. The boat we stay on is owned by our dear, longtime friends from Phoenix. The name of their boat is “STEWARDSHIP.” They believe everything they have is because of the Lord. And our dear friends believe they must be a steward of all God’s blessings. So, this boat has its unique witness when people pass.
Here are some other names that I find interesting:
- Our Wee Ship
- Eggs-ta-sea
- Taco the Town
- Marlin Monroe
- She Got the House
- Aboat Time
- Pier Pressure
- Seas the Day
(I have often thought the name of my boat would be Sealeg’s.)
One can usually tell where the heart of the owner is by the name of their boat. Where is our heart? Would our name measure up to the name of the ONE who has chosen us to worship HIM? Is the name that we wear on the outside each day mirroring what we are called to be? Or, is what we advertise, and the image we choose to project, the most important thing in our life?
The scripture says that one day believers will be given a new name. Rev 2:17 says: Whoever has ears, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.
Those of us that persevere will be given a new name by the LORD, and only we will know that name. The name will be given according to what we have worshipped, or what has been most important, in our lives here on earth. Sometimes I think my name will be appearance, cars, TV, clothes, sports, good times….
The Scripture also says “where our treasure is, there will our heart be also.” I want to be proud of my name, don’t you?
What would be the name of your boat?
Message me the name you would choose –no judgment.
