There have been few experiences in my life when I didn’t want to add something, change something, or improve on something that was presented before me. For those that know me, I definitely have a strong opinion. This last week I went with my son, John Mark, to the Master’s Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, and I do have to say . . . I wouldn’t change a thing. It was a dream come true!
I had a hip replacement on March 3rd. I am doing okay, but it still was only five weeks out when my son asked if I wanted to go to the Master’s. What was I going to say “Maybe next year?” This was a dream that John Mark and I tossed about every year when we would faithfully watch the match on TV. We would always say “someday” we would be there in the crowd encouraging those that play the game better than we ever could, on our best day, or in our wildest dreams.
Some exceedingly generous people in Georgia had heard of my cancer situation and gave us their Thursday tickets to the Master’s so that we could complete that dream. How very gracious they were to us the day we picked up the tickets. It touched our hearts to be favored in such a way, and it will be a gift we can never repay. A dream come true!!
John Mark was my caddy of sorts. And, a very good one at that. He readied the scooter, arranged the route, saw to it that I had water to drink, and helped me with my every need. I cannot thank him enough. We both love playing golf, so we were like two kids ready for our biggest day.
The moment we stepped on the property we knew we were stepping into one of the beautiful wonders, not only of the sports world, but of the world itself. It is breathtaking … it literally takes your breath away it is so beautiful. The flowers, the grass, the care taken for each hole to be just right. The friendliness of the hosts, personnel, greeters. Everything was orchestrated. It is pristine. Everywhere you look are brightly colored flowers, groomed fairways, and cherry blossom trees. Only THE MASTER could make something that beautiful!
And one cried unto another, and said, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of His glory.” (Isaiah 6:3 KJV)
