There is not a day that goes by during this Christmas season that we are not reminded of Christ’s birth. We celebrate in song, in worship, in music, in dance, and in presents. But, it is His presence that sustains us daily. The celebration of His birth is not complete without telling the entire story. In His suffering and death, we have been given new life in Him, and He lives in us each day wanting to guide, to teach, to celebrate through His Spirit.
Today, a Christmas carol is not playing through my mind. The tune I am humming is …
Savior, like a shepherd lead us, much we need Thy tender care;
In Thy pleasant pastures feed us, for our use Thy folds prepare.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Thou hast bought us, Thine we are.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Thou hast bought us, Thine we are.
This we sing because we know He is with us every day. The shepherds in the field knew the important job of a shepherd, and that is to keep the sheep from harm. I know this Shepherd, Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ, is so very near that He does hear me when I pray. This is what I celebrate today. He understands what I am going through, and He comforts me when I am in need. I can only hope that through this Christmas season you indeed find that He is truly your Shepherd.
