I “HATE” JEANNE SPANGLER!
So, Steve, isn’t that rather harsh?
Who is Jeanne Spangler and WHY do you hate her?
The Bible says we are not supposed to hate.
… she is always right … at least that’s what she tells me.
Well, Jeanne Spangler is my physical therapist at West Methodist Hospital.
- Twice a week I go to see Jeanne, where she pushes and pushes me–over and over again–with a sweet spirit. It is really hard to hate (or dislike) someone who has such a sweet spirit and your well-being at heart.
- Jeanne brings me great pain in a very short amount of time. Anyone who goes to physical therapy knows that the old term “pain is gain” definitely applies here.
- I know she has my best in her plan. (Don’t you just hate something that hurts to be the best for you?)
- Last, it never fails, at the end of a session with her, I realize that she never lets the time go by when she doesn’t encourage, admonish, and push me to places I have never been. Not only do I physically improve, but I emotionally improve as well.
I have never been a person who likes to do something I don’t want to do. One can always manipulate or change a situation to work in one’s favor. But, most of the time, heading right into the storm on your own is not the best plan. I realize that I need Jeanne, because she has been trained and prepared for the task of improving my physical situation. So far, from my past experience, I hadn’t done a great job. I needed a strong hand to guide me on this journey of physical recovery.
Have you found yourself in need of a spiritual guide? One who can help you through the storms of life (and there are many)? People ask how we are doing in this life struggle. We can only say that God shows up every day. Every day we feel that HE has a plan, and if we follow that plan we will finish the day knowing that He was guiding us all the way. But, if we try to take the situation into our own hands, the day is full of turmoil and frustration. Pain has been gain … we just can’t do this on our own, as hard as we try. We have not been trained in walking through cancer, so we will bend the knee and let HIM walk with us and before us.
“Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:15-17 NASB)
“You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its remotest parts And said to you, ‘You are My servant, I have chosen you and not rejected you.’ Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:9, 10 NASB)
